Planning
your dream African Safari
An
safari to Africa is a 'once-in-a-life-time' experience. In order to find
a safari in Africa that will suit your holiday time, interests and
budget, we will
help you in choosing your perfect African Safari tour.
With years
of experience and in-depth knowledge of Africa, Gateway Africa will make
your African Safari dream a reality.
Choosing your
African Safari

African safaris are divided
in three types,
and variations of them.
In choosing a safari,
the following should be taken into consideration:
a) Your Country
of choice,
with regard to your interest (wildlife, culture).
b) Your Type
of African Safari,
with regard to your holiday time and needs.
c)
What
to Budget ? Because
Africa is such a unique and diverse travel destination, there is no
easy answer.
Camping
is cheaper than staying in a luxury safari lodge, except when you are
heading into remote areas on a luxury mobile camping safari - and
logistics costs come into play.
Most
luxury mobile camping safaris and overland camping safaris operate on a scheduled departure basis at
a fixed cost, while fly-in safaris, or tailor-made safaris are planned
specifically to meet your own personal budget and interests.
Affordability
is in the mind of the beholder and the value of desired experiences is
a personal matter.
There are basically
6 African countries
on the continent where we focus our safaris on:
Namibia, Botswana,
Zambia, South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania.
Safari Destinations
Safari in
Namibia:
Our
preferred destination. Namibia is a country of open spaces and immense
diversity. It is set between 2 deserts, the Namib desert in the west and
the Kalahari in the east. Scenery ranges from desert, grass savannahs,
rugged mountain ranges to the lush sub-tropical green of the north.
Popular safari locations include the magnificent Sossusvlei area, Etosha
Park and surrounds, the Skeleton Coast and some private game reserves
scattered around the country.
The beauty of a safari in Namibia is in its desolation, low population
and the diverse contrasts in landscapes, animals and cultures. It has a
very good infrastructure and therefore also on of the cheaper safari
destinations. Due to the close
proximity to other
famous destinations; Okavango
Delta, Chobe
and Victoria Falls,
make Namibia a unique
safari destination.
Safari in
Botswana:
With more than 30% of
the country reserved for wildlife and with only 2 people per square
kilometer, Botswana is a true wilderness safari location. If you are
looking for that feeling that you are the only person in the bush, this
is the place to have your safari. The most popular parks are as follow:
Moremi – a park then
encapsulate most of the Okavango Delta which is huge oasis created by
the river’s delta system spreading like an open hand into the Kalahari
Desert; Chobe Game Reserve – a park famous for its huge quantities of
elephant some seasons reaching 60 000; and other like Savuti, Kgalaghadi,
Nxai Pans, Central Kalahari. Birding Safaris in Botswana is also
exceptional.
Safari in South
Africa:
There are numerous
national and private game reserves and the most popular being the Kruger
Park regions, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Eastern Cape. Although one
doesn’t find the huge volume of animals like in East Africa, there are
certain reserves where you have a good chance of seeing the Big 5 in a
short period of time and not to mention a big variety of animals feeding
on different vegetation types.
With more than 10% of the world’s bird species, it is a birder’s
paradise.
Having the best infrastructure in Africa, this is possibly the easiest
safari destination.
Safari In
Kenya:
This is the classic
luxury safari destination and sharing with Tanzania one of the ultimate
safari experiences – The Annual Great Migration of more than 1.5
million antelope – Kenya offers a lot to visitors in regards to
variety of parks. There are at least 6 popular parks to visit with the
most famous the Masai Mara. Because of an infrastructure that has
deteriorated during the last few years, costs of traveling between parks
have increased sharply and one often need to fly.
Safari in
Tanzania:
Tanzania in East
Africa, as it has so many amazing and varied parks very close to each
other. The so-called Northern Circuit for instance include Lake Manyara
with its millions of flamingoes and tree climbing lions, the most
spectacular extinct volcano Ngorongoro Crater with more than 25 000
animals on the crater floor at any given moment and Serengeti’s huge
savannah expanses where you can see the Annual Great Migration of over a
million antelope.
Safari in
Zambia:
Probably one of
Africa’s lesser known Safari countries. The most famous park is South
Luangwa which is renowned for thousands of hippo and plenty leopard
sightings. Again not the easiest country to travel independently and one
needs to fly from one safari park to the next.
